What is sisterhood? In the 1970s sisterhood assumed a common bond between all women by the nature of their being women. Today feminists view sisterhood differently, making room for individual women’s experiences across barriers of race, class, gender, sexuality, age, location, etc. Although no two feminists will have the exact same definition of what sisterhood actually is, I would venture to say it is a process of knowing other women – through discussing shared and different experiences in mutual participatory dialog. Sisterhood thus does not become about a common bond, but about a common desire to connect to other women.
