About this blog: Pretty Things for Hard Times

[Art by Judith Bird]

This blog originated from the question: what are the things that sustain us? Moving through the globalized, digitized world becomes a complex, often devastating process. I believe that we all seek pleasures that sustain us within spaces and times of discomfort.

Some of these posts are images and words that inspire me ('pretty things for hard times"). Some are an exploration of cultural aesthetics or trends that aren't always pretty things for hard times (but sometimes still are!) Whenever I get an idea, I google search it, and put the results up under Ugly Pretty Idea Things, assuming that ideas are things, thought can take shape, and objects can also take on a life and ideas of their own.

Roots and Water is thus ever evolving, but has become a digital altar showcasing "pretty things for hard times" and "ugly pretty idea things" of the times.

It also tells stories (like that of June Bug and Carl) and houses testaments and gifts to those I love. [and of course some messages to my once housemate mackenzie]
